About this role
As a Principal Software Engineer at Jotelulu, you will be at the core of our Engineering team, leading the changes we need to make in our frontend and backend software systems to meet both current and future demands.
You will

You will play an indispensable role in scaling our software systems, making critical decisions between iterating on and refactoring current solutions versus adopting new systems. Your expertise in refactoring and scaling both frontend and backend systems will be crucial. Ideally, you will bring experience in PHP to the team.

Your approach must be that of a problem-solver, not just a problem-raiser. We're looking for someone who collaborates with the team to propose solutions, comes forward with proof of concepts to validate approaches, makes well-considered proposals with clear trade-offs, and can lead technical projects.

You should be comfortable and eager to grow as an individual contributor, working closely with product teams and leadership to fully understand the product vision and business context. This understanding is vital for making informed technical decisions that align with the company's rhythm and product vision.

Your role involves extensive collaboration across several squads, mentoring software engineers to help them develop better code and solutions. As one of JOTELULU's main technical references, your impact will be significant across the company.
Languages
Spanish is a must and English is a plus.
What We Are Looking For
  • Technical Expertise: Solid experience in scaling software systems, and demonstrated expertise in designing scalable, resilient software architecture. Guide our frontend and backend stack’s evolution to meet our rapid growth. Proficiency in PHP is highly desirable.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: A proactive approach to problem-solving, capable of leading with proposals and proof of concepts.

  • Strategic Technical Decision-Making: Make informed technical decisions that reflect a deep understanding of the product vision and business needs, balancing immediate requirements with long-term goals.

  • Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Serve as a role model in technical excellence and decision-making. Empower other engineers to take initiative and tackle challenges, while actively mentoring them to enhance their skills.

  • Code Quality Champion: Establish and enforce coding standards and best practices to ensure high-quality development. Lead code reviews and mentor engineers in writing efficient, maintainable code.

  • Technical Project Management: Exhibit strong project management skills in planning, estimating, and managing projects. Ensure timely delivery of projects within scope, emphasizing both short-term achievements and long-term objectives.

  • Collaboration Across Functions: Demonstrate strong collaborative skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and business units, acting as a key technical reference and fostering a unified approach to product development.

  • Adaptability: Comfortable in a dynamic startup environment, able to navigate evolving priorities while maintaining focus on the broader technical and product strategy.
